A report from Malachy about the LI Cares Ride on October, 19

The ride was well attended. They had about 10 groups, each with 8 – 10 riders. HBC had 6 people participate. Malachy went on a B/B+ ride with 10 riders. The ride went well. They ride in a Paceline, each person leads for about 1 or 2 miles before rotating to the back. The ride goes fast, the riders stay single file, little talking on the ride. There are few lights, stop signs or potholes. The ride leader stops the ride a couple of times because the ride never stops otherwise.

After the ride there was a large gathering of riders. There was plenty of food including hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, side salads and desserts. There was a drop off place for canned food for LI Cares.

Too bad more HBC members did not participate in this!

Thank you for the report, Malachy!

Minutes of the General Meeting

of the HBC

10/9/2024

President, Karen t called the meeting to order at 7:28 PM.

The minutes of the September meeting were projected on screen.

Scott Gross made a motion to accept, seconded by Jerry. The minutes were accepted.

Karen showed the two new amendments to the By-Laws. (first presented and discussed at the September meeting)

First: Definition of "Family Membership" to be more clear and limit it to the primary member, significant other and 2 children residing at the same residence.

Second: add Membership Code of Conduct.

Scott made a motion to accept.

We presented a vote for both- they both passed!

Karen discussed the safety presentation that was given by herself, Malachy, John, and Arne at the Northport Library on Monday October 7.

Karen gave membership report on behalf of Sal. Trial memberships ended in September – we have 315 current members.

VP-John discussed that we had 5 members from the HBC who volunteered for the Cow Harbor run, which is great!

Bob McLaughlin is getting better – may be looking to get a Trike Bike.

Reminder – Holiday Party on November 2nd – need people to sign up ASAP. (Price goes up on October 21st to $55)

Karen presented our donation of $1000 to the NY Bike Coalition to Dan Flanzig. Dan accepted on behalf of NYBC and said a few nice words and information about NYS Bike Law progress (or lack thereof in some cases).

The NY State Bike Summit is next week in Albany.

Treasurer-Anthony gave an update on the club finances. There were no radical changes since the last update.

Karen notified the membership about the donation to the Dementia Society of America for $750.

Karen also notified the membership about the $750 to the Long Island Cares charity organization (LI Food Bank)-will be donated by Steve.

Scott reminded the members about the slate of positions for Executive and Board –results of the election will be announced at the November General Meeting.

Featured Speaker-Presentation from REI, Craig  (store manager) and Nakita (Bike dept), of the  Huntington REI Shop.

Great informative talk from REI!

The 50/50 was chosen by Quami (new member). Ray Herrik won the 50/50.

The meeting was ended at 8:50.

Respectfully submitted by Anthony Oliveri, assistant secretary (😊).
