Why be Ancient when the MODERN Mariner is happening?!
The route follows a scenic loop out to Montauk Point and back,
eliminating the need for the LIRR or truck rentals. Starting in
Hampton Bays—about a 60-minute drive from Massapequa—
lets us spend more miles on quieter, more scenic roads with less traffic.
The round-trip route of The Modern Mariner is 100 miles with
2,850 ft of elevation. We will have two smaller loop options as
well, the 68 mile “Metric” Mariner (1783 ft) and the 31 mile
Sub Mariner (815 ft). The shorter routes generally follow the
100 mile route with earlier turn-around points to shorten the
loop. Which ever distance you choose, don’t forget our tradition
of meeting up to have dinner in the Hampton Bays before
driving home.
With no need to catch a train or load bikes onto a truck,
logistics are much simpler this year—so the registration
fee has been reduced from $50 to just $5 for Massapequa
Park Bicycle Club members.
